Pharmaceutical Achievers, a new CHF publication for teachers, has been written as a follow-up to our popular teaching resource Chemical Achievers. Like its predecessor, this new work is a collection of biographical sketches of notable scientists. In addition to the book, a series of teaching modules have been prepared to accompany selected biographical sketches. The modules are as follows:
Aspirin AdventuresConsidering the importance of biomedical science in the world we live in, we hope these modules help you bring the science of medicine into your classroom in an effective and enjoyable manner.This module accompanies the biographical sketch of Felix Hoffmann, featured in the book, and explores the history and science of over-the-counter pain relievers. It is suitable for use in high school and middle school classes.
Magic Bullets: Chemistry vs. Cancer
This module accompanies the biographical sketches of Gertrude Elion and George Hitchings featured in the book, and deals with the history and science of cancer detection, treatment, and prevention. It is suitable for use in high school and middle school classes.
This module accompanies the biographical sketches of Alexander Fleming, Howrad Florey, and Ernest Chain featured in the book, and deals with the history and science of antibotics and the treatment and prevention of infectious disease. It is suitable for use in high school and middle school classes, and has been designed to be relevant to both chemistry and biology curricula.
