The Foundation - Objects

ChurchThe Heritage Community Foundation's objects encompass its charitable purposes and are as follows:

  • To promote the study and understanding of Alberta's historical, natural and cultural, scientific and technological heritage by providing educational programs, courses, seminars, conferences, symposia, materials and audio-visual materials in the community for use by members of the public;
  • To preserve that study and understanding by providing educational programs to increase awareness;
  • To promote the advancement of education by providing scholarships to individuals studying Alberta's historical, natural and cultural [scientific and technological] heritage in disciplines associated with its preservation, study and interpretation and by providing grants to institutions which facilitate individual scholarship activity.

The Foundation strives to ensure that heritage is valued by everyone by creating a responsive public that understands the importance of  heritage to our quality of life and is willing to commit funds for:

  • The establishment and maintenance of programs, special events and other initiatives that bring heritage into the mainstream
  • The development of educational materials, workshops, conferences, symposia and programs in a range of media that build knowledge and awareness of the various aspects of the heritage of communities including landscapes, historic buildings and streetscapes, objects and records, and individual and community stories
  • The maintenance and improvement of heritage organizations and institutions to increase public access
  • The use of new information technologies to improve public access to heritage resources
