Chinese DragonThe core activities of the Heritage Community Foundation are linked to the Foundation's charitable objects, set out in the Foundation's incorporation document, the Trust Indenture, and are as follows:

  • To promote the study and understanding of Alberta's historical, natural and cultural heritage by providing educational programs, courses, seminars, conferences, symposia, materials and audio-visual materials in the community for use by members of the public,
  • To preserve that study and understanding by providing educational programs to increase awareness,
  • To promote the advancement of education by providing scholarships to individuals studying Alberta's historical, natural and cultural heritage in disciplines associated with its preservation, study and interpretation and by providing grants to institutions which facilitate individual scholarship activity.

All programming activities devolve from the Foundation's Mandate "to link people with heritage through discovery and learning" and/or provide resources for the accomplishment of the Mandate. The Foundation was set up to accomplish the following purposes

  • To be a strong public voice for heritage
  • To build individual and community identity and pride through research, public education and youth programs
  • To build resources to sustain heritage institutions, organizations and related projects and activities.

The core activities of the Foundation are as follows:

  • Website development
  • Multimedia learning resources
  • Heritage community learning centre
  • Research into contested aspects of history
  • Heritage awareness
  • Stabilization fund development
