Welcome to the Edmonton Oilers Heritage Website! This website coincides with the Edmonton Oilers' 25th Anniversary Celebration marking their arrival in the National Hockey League (NHL) in the 1979-1980 season. This online information Edmonton Glovesresource was created by the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, in partnership with the Heritage Community Foundation, and commemorates the rich history and contributions of the Edmonton Oilers.

The timing for this project could not be better. Over the past 25 years, a wealth of information has accumulated on the background, history, achievements and contributions of the hockey club to Edmonton, the province, and nation. This information—in the form of newspaper clippings, images and audio and visual materials—can be found with the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation, with the team and scattered throughout the world in private collections of long-time fans. The need for this website is clear; information on the team, its legacy and contributions are now available in one place.

Edmonton Oilers Dressing RoonPast game programs, ticket stubs, newspaper clippings, television and radio interviews, game footage and other memorabilia provide a living history that many fans, young and old, will be able to identify with. The history of this home-grown club can be traced prior to 1979. Clubs that have contributed to the Oilers legacy include the Edmonton Superior junior teams, the Edmonton Flyers Senior teams, the Edmonton Mercury touring amateur squads, and the Edmonton Oil Kings.

Edmonton Oilers' EquipmentDelve into this website and you will be privy to documents, interviews, footage and information on the Edmonton Oilers Hockey Club that will bring the story of this remarkable team to life. We encourage you to take your time and explore the Edmonton Oilers Heritage website and return often as the site will continue to grow and expand with the club.

 

This website is divided into four sections

History explores hockey’s roots in Edmonton, from the early years of the game in Alberta to the Oilers’ dynasty years in which they won five Stanley cups. Precursor events prior to the championships include the formation of the World Hockey Association and the Oilers inclusion to the NHL. Player memories and rebuilding of the hockey club in the 1990’s are also featured in this section.

Legacy pays tribute to the Edmonton Oilers for the many years of service to the community and to the game of hockey. The team's contribution to the city and province include hockey schools, charities and community events. On the rink, Edmonton-born players have represented their country in international events, all-star games and the Olympics.

Memories is an interactive section where users may explore the Awards of the NHL, tour Rexall Place and the Edmonton Oilers front office, and test Oilers hockey knowledge with an online quiz. The Record Breakers subsection features player profiles according to position.

Photo Gallery is a huge database of over 10,000 images of former Edmonton Oilers, important moments in Oilers history, and memorabilia collected by the Edmonton Oilers Community Foundation. To find proper images, searches may be made by player, year or memorabilia item.
