Internships and Practicums

The Heritage Community Foundation is an educational trust with charitable objects.  The Foundation provides a range of practicum and internship opportunities for researchers and technicians including graphic designers, programmers and web developers.  The Foundation accommodates 30-50 interns per year.

The Canada's Digital Collections, Canada's Local Internet Creations, Young Canada Works in Heritage and Human Resources Canada support internships with the Foundation.  As a result, the Foundation has become a national leader in this area and was recognized by being awarded the Alberta Chambers of Commerce Employer of Youth Award of Distinction offered by Alberta Human Resources and Employment. In the period from 1999 to the present, the Foundation has provided work experience to over 500 interns.  Of the Foundation's core staff, about 50% are former interns.

In September, 2004, the Foundation created the Aboriginal IT/Animation Pilot Program, in partnership with the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology, and eight students graduated from the Program in August, 2005.
