Flame Safety LampSir Humphrey Davy, a friend of Clanny's had seen his bellows in use. Looking for a practical method of isolating the flame from mine air By 1815 Davy determined that fine wire gauze would confine and cool the flame below the ignition point of firedamp. This ‘Davy’ lamp copied and modified by many was the primary working light in mines for the next 100 years.
