Science and Industry Canada, this site explores Alberta's inventive
spirit, an aspect of our past that touches every facet of our daily lives.
This site offers students and learners of all ages a broad portrait of
Alberta's inventive spirit, a drive that has helped to shape the
province's development and fuels current and ongoing research and
development. Journey with us and discover that ingenuity has always been
and will continue to be a vital part of every sector of industry in
Alberta.
This site features four main sections:
Inventors Learn about the lives, experiences and motivations of a
representative selection of famous and lesser known Alberta inventors.
Discover how their ideas were realized while others fell by the wayside.
Inventions Take a closer look at a cross-section of inventions from 11
different sectors of industry, created in Alberta or by Albertans. Read
about the circumstances surrounding the development of each invention and
the impact it made.
Innovation Learn about the social and economic processes that accompany
the introduction and development of new ideas and marketable products and
services. Find out about the resources, policies, regulations and
institutions that fuel and support these efforts in our communities.
Patents Search through our database of all patents filed in Alberta
from 1905-1975. Invention certainly did not end in 1975, and an updated
database is anticipated in a further phase of this site's development.
