Formed in 1981, the Archives Society of Alberta is a not-for-profit organization representing the interests of the province's archivists and archival institutions. The ASA operates an education program with courses in basic archival theory and practice as well as workshops on more advanced subjects. The ASA Archives Advisor provides advice to organizations and individuals about best practices in archives as well as the process of creating new archival programs. The ASA administers a grants program which funds travel and education grants for archivists as well as projects to make archival records more accessible.

The Society sponsors Alberta Archives Week every October and takes part in other public awareness activities to raise the profile of Alberta's archival community. It publishes a quarterly newsletter and holds an annual conference.
