Friends of Medalta Society
The Friends of Medalta Society operates the Medicine Hat Clay Industries National Historic District, (also known as the Historic Clay District), a living, working industrial museum that offers a unique and extensive experience through collections, exhibits, interpretation, guided tours and educational and artistic programming. The Historic Clay District occupies about 150 acres in Medicine Hat’s North Flats neighbourhood which evolved as a distinct urban entity dominated by its industrial development. Medalta Potteries and Hycroft China are focal points within the District.
The Society, headquartered in Medicine Hat, Alberta, is a not-for-profit organization that fosters an understanding and appreciation of the Historic Clay District, its importance in the development of Medicine Hat, and its impact across Canada.
The Friends of Medalta Society provides governance through a twelve member volunteer Board of Directors and enlists a pool of over 100 volunteers who support such areas/activities as administration, the Gift Shop, interpretive programming, school curriculum and extension programming, Medalta Artists-in-Residence Program, various Board committees and fundraising events. The Society has over 500 voting members of which 100 are lifetime members.
