Literacy through Heritage Workshop  

Lon Dubinsky, Workshop Leader

Lon Dubinsky's principal interest is in developing collaborations between museums and various community organizations. He initiated and is coordinator of  "Reading The Museum," the literacy program of the Canadian Museums Association and is the consultant for "Writing Home," a project that links museums, elementary schools, writers and visual artists in Alberta. He is a Research Associate of the Kamloops Art Gallery and co-director of "The Cultural Future of Small Cities," a three-year initiative that involves the gallery, the University College of the Cariboo and seven other community partners in Kamloops.  

He has also done program development and review for other nonprofit organizations and agencies, such as the Canada Council, Conference Board of Canada, Samuel and Saidye Bronfman Family Foundation, Site Santa Fe and Whyte Museum of the Canadian Rockies. He received his Ph.D. in Communications from McGill University and teaches part-time in the Studio and MFA programs of the Faculty of Fine Arts at Concordia University.  He writes and lectures about arts and literacy education, contemporary art, museum policy and Canadian cultural history.
