The Provincial Archives of Alberta acquires, preserves and makes available for research, public and private records of enduring value and provincial significance in order to preserve the collective memory of Alberta and to contribute to the Alberta identity.

Since the establishment of the Bureau of Archives in 1908, there has been an archival program within the Government of Alberta. The Provincial Archives is a line branch of the Ministry of Community Development, Government of Alberta and is operated out of 8555 Roper Road, Edmonton.

Providing a full range of archival reference services, the public reference room and library are open five days a week. Hours of operation are Tuesday through Saturday, 9:00 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. and Wednesday evenings 4:30 to 9:00 p.m. The Provincial Archives is wheel chair accessible.

Annual events include an Archives week held during the first week of October, as well as a Film night held in mid-April. For Volunteer opportunities please contact Jessica King 780-427-0356.
