Trade and commerce have figured prominently in Northlands Park’s economic influence. With the construction of the Manufacturers Building, and later the Sportex, Coliseum, and AgriCom, local and regional capacity for sharing industry standards and new products rose sharply. This in turn stimulated international attention, garnering a broader range of opportunities for Northlands Park and its many private sector patrons. The sophisticated evolution from regional trade fairs to national and international activities has strengthened links between business circles through events like the Great Trade Show and Cultural Exhibition of China.
The impact of this has spilled out into the realm of tourism. As a publicly listed tourist site, the Northlands Park exhibition grounds draw large numbers to the city and region. Events such as the Canadian Finals Rodeo and Klondike Days, draw out-of-town guests who require hospitality services that benefit the city at large. A profound impact that Northlands Park proudly continues to make is its employment of about 1,400 individuals from Edmonton and surrounding areas. It is one of the city’s largest employers.
