Veterans Affairs Canada

This site contains a great variety of information for military historians, genealogists, teachers, students or veterans, including a digitized version of the Book of Remembrance for those who died in the First World War; the site also includes a guide to Canadian war memorials currently online.

Sheet Music from Canada's Past: The First World War Era

This National Library site features Canadian sheet music from 1914 to 1920, some with full scores available, and includes an article about music on the Canadian home front.

The Virtual Gramophone: The First World War Era

This recent addition to the National Library's Virtual Gramophone site includes biographies of major Canadian musical personalities, song lists and audio recordings from the time of the Great War.

Canadian Illustrated News

The Canadian Illustrated News site is a selection of almost 4000 images of people, places and events across Canada and around the world taken from the popular 19th-century magazine. Canadian Illustrated News was published in Montreal, Quebec by George Desbarats from 1869 to 1883 and was notable for its innovative use of half-tone photographs.

First Among Equals: The Prime Minister in Canadian Life and Politics

It features a digitized version of the National Archives 1994 exhibition "First Among Equals". The site replaces and builds on two earlier Web sites, Canada Speaks and Prime Ministers of Canada: 1867-1996, which were funded by the SchoolNet Digital Collections Program of Industry Canada in 1996. This new site also incorporates additional speeches.
