Doors Open Alberta

Guidelines

Doors Open Alberta provides residents and visitors with a unique opportunity to explore and enjoy sometimes hidden and always interesting places and spaces in Alberta cities, towns and villages-and all free of charge!

Your community's Doors Open Alberta event can be as simple as one site or as ambitious as a 100 sites!

The information contained in this document provides communities that are considering participating in Doors Open Alberta with a summary of the entry criteria and program timelines.

Doors Open Alberta Criteria

The following criteria must be met for a community to participate in the Doors Open Alberta program:

  • Establish a local Doors Open organizing lead contact.
  • Ensure that admission to the sites is free.
  • Ensure that site partners have adequate public liability and property insurance
  • Acknowledge Doors Open Alberta, the Heritage Community Foundation, Travel Alberta and Alberta Historical Resources Foundation in all promotional materials. (logos located Host Forms)
  • Complete the Community Registration Form and submit it to the Heritage Community Foundation.
  • Submit event information to the Heritage Community Foundation 6 weeks in advance of your event for free posting to www.doorsopenalberta.ca
  • Submit an evaluation, including volunteer contribution, to the Heritage Community Foundation 8 weeks following your event to be used for reports to funders.

Doors Open Alberta Community Goal

The goal of your Doors Open event is to:

  • Draw visitors from the local community, region, province, Canada and abroad.
  • Promote pride in your community's heritage and create opportunities for sustainable community tourism.
  • Build a legacy by integrating heritage and culture into community planning and events.
  • Foster strategic alliances among a range of community partners.
