Multimedia

This Understanding Traditional Use Studies Website is a multimedia resource with a range of content including text, images, audio and video. This capacity makes it a truly archival resource that addresses the needs of both formal and life-long learners. The Heritage Community Foundation is pleased to make these resources accessible. This section provides a range of resources that shed light on TUS in Alberta and also the range of products contained in Studies. Some are drawn from TUS undertaken as a part of the Alberta Aboriginal Relations (formerly Alberta Aboriginal Affairs and Northern Development) cross-ministry initiative begun in 2000.

  • Featured Articles
To enrich the content of the Understanding Traditional Use Studies Website, the Heritage Community Foundation has obtained permission from authors and publishers to make a range of supplementary articles available.
  • Photo Gallery
TUS involves photographic documentation of traditional landscapes and land uses. This section provides selected photographs.
  • Oral Histories
This section includes vignettes from oral history interviews with Elders and other knowledge keepers.
  • Bibliography
As a new discipline, TUS has a relatively small body of literature. Key printed resources are presented here.
  • Web Resources
The Heritage Community Foundation has developed a range of Aboriginal website and edukits (customized teacher and student resources) pertaining to the history, culture, traditions, contributions and achievements of Aboriginal Peoples in Treaty 8, 6 and 7 areas (from north so south). Summary descriptions and hyperlinks are provided. In addition, links are provided to relevant resources developed by First Nations, and governments.
