Elementary Teacher's Zone

This section contains lessons developed for teachers presenting the Health and Wellness Edukit. The lessons span kindergarten to grade seven and are designed to meet the 2005 Program of Studies for Social Studies from Alberta Education. The general theme of the lessons is the history and use of plants, roots, and berries by Aboriginal peoples for the benefit of health and wellness within their communities. Students will also learn to appreciate the important relationship between Aboriginal people and the natural environment.

Each lesson plan provides a teacher Information background section on Aboriginal history and culture. Many lesson plans include downloadable worksheets that can be printed off or transferred to transparencies. The lesson plans are all developed to allow students to be interactive as possible in the learning process. The title of each lesson reflects the learning objective, making it easy for you to sort through and choose what information you would like to share with your students. A Resources section includes a list of books and materials that you may want to use to increase your own understanding, to supplement lesson concepts and materials or for students to follow up on their own. Many of the resources are approved by Alberta Education and where possible ISBN and order information is included.
