Training Institutions

The performing arts, like any other profession, are based on the skills and talents of an individual that come from years of training. Though dancing, singing and acting are not entirely academic in nature, each year thousands of students enroll in Alberta training institutions that are devoted specifically to these disciplines. These schools are renowned for their dedication to their particular craft and are known throughout the greater community as promoters of culture and young talent.

The institutions that offer arts courses come in all sizes, from the one-room dance studios to an entire faculty at one of the three major universities in Alberta. Private schools, such as the Banff Centre for the Arts and Alberta College offer instruction to the general public with credit and non-credit courses. Each institution offers something specific to a student of the arts and choices of whether or not to attend often hinges on a specialized program offered exclusively through a particular school.Electro-Acoustic Recording Studio

The post-secondary schools profiled here each have well established arts programs. The University of Alberta is known for its state of the art drama facilities, while the University of Calgary's music program has established a reputation for grand scale performances.
