University of Lethbridge
The University of Lethbridge (U of L) offers two
programs in the performing arts. Its department of music and department of
theatre and dramatic arts include a wide variety of courses for the arts
student.
The department of music allows students to study their
chosen instrument with an integration of music history, theory, literature
and ear training. Several ensembles, including multiple jazz bands and the
University of Lethbridge singers, offer extra-curricular and credit
programs for those wishing to improve their performances and expand their
repertoire. The faculty also runs a music conservatory. Established in
1968, it offers non-credit instruction to musicians of all ages and skill
levels. Private lessons and preparation courses are available to more than
400 registered pupils.
Students at the U of L can also receive their bachelor
of fine arts specializing in drama in the department of theatre and
dramatic arts. Program administrators encourage students from other
faculties to take drama courses as a unique way to learn communication,
creative problem solving and project management skills that are
transferable to other areas of study. All students begin with a general
drama course which covers all aspects of the theatre arts including
acting, directing, lighting and costume design. Students are then able to
specialize in their particular area of interest and can continue their
graduate studies with a post-diploma in dramatic arts.
