The Works logo. The Works Visual Art and Design Festival will be going into its 19th year in the summer of 2004. The annual celebration produced by The Works International Visual Arts Society is the largest art and design festival in North America and spans from the end of June to the beginning of July.

Churchill Square and some other core Edmonton locations within the eight-block Arts District provide venues for the busy event. In previous years, over 200 exhibits and special events have taken place within the downtown radius.

"Lethbridge Connection: Electronic and Media Arts."Festivities at the community-oriented festival consist of both indoor and outdoor visual art exhibitions, a children's tent where they can create pieces, the newly created Design Pavilion speaking to the impact of design on everyday living, the Works Street Market where artist vendors can sell their work, and general revelry basics such as crowds, food and music.

Presenting an eclectic array of art, the Works attracts emerging and established artists, patrons, and general members of the public from across Canada and the world. Recent festivals have seen about 250,000 people arriving to interact with the numerous persons and groups who present their creations.

At the 2003 Works, 585 artists were represented—from burgeoning child artists to art students, to older and nationally recognized individuals. Festival goers also come from diverse contexts ranging from art savvy to general distance from other arts events.
