Open Trade Shows Historically, Northlands has hosted consumer exhibits primarily on agriculture and related industries. As the demographical landscape changed, however, so too did the focus of these shows: rural concerns shifted to urban ones, and eventually, public displays were being offered on a wide variety of topics. 2002 saw around 2000 events hosted on the Northlands grounds all told, including graduations, trade shows, consumer shows, and catered gatherings. Together, these attracted millions of visitors, consumer shows among the most popular draws.
The Home and Garden Show, held annually at the AgriCom, is a particularly large trade and horticultural attraction. The event is surrounded by big press, and linked to the successful Home and Garden Television network. By featuring both static exhibits and presentations offered by personalities popular on the gardening scene, organizers hope to entice visitors into coming. This event is linked up with a Home and Interior Design Show that focuses on providing expert information concerning household decor.
The Canwest Woodworking and Tool Show, like other such events hosted at Northlands, offers seminars and buying opportunities at over 100 exhibits. The show saw 12,000 attendees in 2003, and organizers hope for comparable turn-outs in future.
International exhibits featuring cultural fairs of every kind, have also displayed their goods and materials in the succession of buildings and grandstands that existed throughout Northlands’ history.
