Parade St-Jean Baptiste, 1949. While attention has been focused on Quebec and Francophone areas of the Atlantic Region, the stories of the Francophone West have largely been ignored in both popular and official history. The number of communities with French names, from Grande Prairie to Bellevue, are evidence of their presence and contributions. They were explorers such as the La Vérendrye family, farmers such as Josèph Garneau, businessmen such as the Révillon brothers as well as clergy such as the Oblates of Mary Immaculate and the Grey Nuns.

Their hard work and contributions to the making of Alberta must be documented and explored not only to help educate current generations of Francophones but also all Albertans and Canadians.
