Northlands Park - Memories Worth Keeping

Northlands Park proudly supports education and does so in several ways. Throughout its many years of growth and development, the organization has partnered with schools and government to promote learning in a legacy that continues today.

ICE School programOver a single school year, up to 20 primary school classes are welcomed on to the exhibition grounds for a week of innovative learning. Through the Edmonton Oilers In Class Education (ICE) school program, also known as ICE School, Northlands Park collaborates with public and Catholic schools. Together, they offer specially-tailored activities to participating children.

Scholarship moneyThe one-week lesson plan includes skill building that directly ties in to school curriculum and encompasses such topics as the social and cultural roles of hockey. Inside the Rexall Place classroom, students are involved in activities that foster problem-solving and critical thinking skills.

Learning through Northlands Park activitiesIn addition to Northlands Park support of early learning strategies, teenagers are encouraged to develop their entrepreneurial skills in a team environment through the Junior Achievements of Northern Alberta program, of which the organization is a recognized partner.

In 1981, a Northlands Park Educational Endowment Fund was created to recognize students accessing Accessible educationpost-secondary schooling. There are a number of institutions in Alberta that administer the various awards including the University of Alberta, the Northern Alberta Institute of Technology (NAIT), Norquest College, Athabasca University, Grant McEwan College, and Fairview College.

The Northlands Park Entrance Scholarship is intended for Alberta residents who have demonstrated outstanding academic achievement and are entering their first year of undergraduate studies. Other Northlands endowed awards recognize students who achieve exceptional improvement in their studies, and those completing their programs in fields such as geology.

Northlands Community Services initiativesEducational contributions are a significant way in which Northlands Park gives to the community. With the recognition that education is crucial, the organization continues to share its resources and make formal learning accessible and exciting.
