Player Profiles (1979-1983)

Paul Coffey and Wayne GretzkyHow do you build a great team? Start with the greatest player of all time, and add a Hall of Fame goaltender and a European winger who would break scoring records. Bolster the lineup with speed and some solid presences on the defence. Add a fiery leader who could motivate even the laziest of men, and let them grow together.

From 1979 to 1983, the Oilers drafted and assembled some of the finest talent the game has ever seen. From Wayne Gretzky, Kevin Lowe and Glenn Anderson to Jari Kurri, Mark Messier and Grant Fuhr, this section looks at the core group of Oilers who would be the foundation for a dynasty and whose names are synonymous with the sport they helped transform.
