Flow System Technologies 

ARC's new George W. Govier Centre for Flow and Sensor Technologies was established to help a broad spectrum of industries develop new technologies and processes that improve efficiency and cost-effectiveness. The centre, which opened in November 2000, tests and develops equipment used in complex flow systems. It gives Alberta Research Council customers access to both laboratory and field-testing for a large range of industrial fluids, including steam, gas, water, heavy crudes and slurries. 

ARC worked closely with industry to incorporate features that meet clients' needs and operation requirements. The facility is mobile and multiphase and includes several modules that can operate independently or in combination with others. The Govier Centre complements the R&D services provided to the energy industry, and expands the corporation's flow and sensor expertise to other industries, such as pulp and paper and chemical processing. The Canada/Alberta Western Economic Partnership Agreement (WEPA) provided $3.98 million in funding toward development of the facility.
