Player Profiles—Dynasty Years
(1984-1990)
A team is built not only on stars,
but on all the role players and character guys who are
brought into the dressing room. Although the Oilers were a
great team thanks to Wayne Gretzky, Jari
Kurri and Mark Messier, it was the emergence of key
checkers like Craig MacTavish and Esa Tikkanen and defencemen like Randy Gregg and Charlie
Huddy that helped transform a very good team into
champions.
In this section, we look at the importing
supporting cast of characters who helped make Edmonton
pretty much the permanent home of the Stanley Cup from
1984 to 1990.
