Indian Reserves and Metis Settlements Maps In Alberta

In Alberta there are over 40 Indian bands occupying more than 90 reserves. Often several reserves comprise what is generally known as a single reserve. For example, the Peigan Reserve in southwest Alberta is actually Peigan I.R. #147 and Peigan I.R. #147B. The Fort Chipewyan band has eight reserves (201A-G) totalling 52,400 acres but the largest is 49,600 acres. To avoid confusion on our small map, the band's name is next to its reserve or reserves rather than naming each reserve. Alberta has eight official Metis Settlements all formed between 1938 and 1939. All of them are in northern Alberta.
