William De Boos

William De Boos enlisted shortly after France fell to Germany in 1940. He was assigned to navigation training in Edmonton after completing initial training in Sydney, Australia. De Boos spent just over a month in Edmonton before moving on to bombing and gunnery school in Mossbank, Saskatchewan, and astro-navigational training in Rivers, Manitoba. Overseas, he was posted to theWilliam DeBoos' Class Photo Middle East, completing a 32 operation tour. He then served out of England, flying in night bombers and pathfinders. De Boos won the Distinguished Flying Cross, with a bar.

Like so many other service men, De Boos captured some of events of his time in service in letters. In the following correspondence, the young airman let his mother know how things were going far away from home.
