Archaeology and Pre-Contact
The history of the province we know as Alberta goes far beyond its mere 95 years of political existence. It is estimated that the first peoples of Alberta camped on the shores of the Vermilion Lakes, near Banff over 10,500 years ago. It is difficult to imagine how life was that long ago, how these early residents came to inhabit Alberta and what life was like for them so long ago in the vast wilderness and beauty of this region.
Join us here to explore the many facets of this early period of Alberta's history, the people and places that we know very little about, but have made many efforts to understand.
