Today the province of Alberta has become a major marketplace and centre of industry, commerce and agriculture. However, this could not have been achieved without the contributions of the individuals that travelled west during the fur trade to settle and explore the western wilderness. Through their bravery and sense of adventure each of these early settlers helped to transform Alberta from a rugged, sparsely populated region into a land of promise and opportunity that, by the turn of the 20th Century, many sought to make their new homeland. Here we would like to share with you some of the stories of these earliest settlers -- the Fur Traders, Missionaries and Explorers.
