Writer, editor, police magistrate, community-builder; Emily Murphy was a leader in Edmonton society, as well as on the provincial and national levels. A list of her achievements and memberships from Who's Who, presumably from 1931, gives us some idea of the wide and varied nature of her public involvements.

Engaged in issues ranging from women's rights and children's protection to public health and welfare, even pacifism, Murphy committed her life to improving social conditions and developing a distinctly Canadian culture.

Follow the quicklinks to further explore Emily Murphy's role in Canadian society.
