Alberta’s Inventors and Inventions Edukit

Inventors and Inventions Edukit

The Alberta Inventors and Inventions Edukit is a customized educational website that draws on the resources of the Alberta Inventors and Inventions website for the benefit of teachers, students and home learners. The site supports student learning relating to Albertan inventors, the development of their inventions, and their subsequent use as well as showcasing research establishments. It showcases over a century of innovation and explores the inventive spirit of Albertans by demonstrating how Alberta inventions impact our lives on a daily basis.

The Edukit, part of the family of dedicated educational websites developed by the Heritage Community Foundation, is part of the Alberta Online Encyclopedia and is divided into student and teacher zones. Activities relate specifically to the Alberta Program of Studies.

  • Student Zone - Students are invited to learn more about Alberta's inventors and inventions through a number of interactive and educational features, which include crossword puzzles, hangman, and word searches. The student section also features pictures, descriptive texts, and a glossary to aid in learning. The student zone contains the following sections:

    • Informatics - Students can access textual information and educational worksheets that will guide them through a number of specially-designed activities.
    • Activities - This section contains a wide range of puzzles and games that will test your knowledge on Alberta’s inventors and inventions.
    • Multimedia - Students can access audio and video clips that will enhance their experience and provide them with additional information.
  • Teacher Zone - Teachers can access important information and guidelines that will assist teachers in navigating the Edukit. The teacher zone contains the following sections:

    • Lesson Plans - A collection of writing noting the method of delivery, and the specific goals and timelines associated to the delivery of lesson content.
    • Activities - This section contains the answers to the activities used to test knowledge of Inventors and Inventions, and Sectors of Discovery.
    • Teacher Resources - A thorough bibliography is provided to teachers who want to obtain more information on Alberta’s inventors and inventions.

The Alberta Inventors and Inventions Edukit is a welcome addition to the Alberta Inventors and Inventions: A Century of Innovation website. The latter site offers website users of all ages a broad portrait of Alberta’s inventive spirit, a drive that has helped to shape the province’s development and fuels current and ongoing research and development.
