Beet Lifter

Andrew Brios' Beet LifterPatented on October 14, 1952, Briosi’s "Beet Lifter" was a carriage outfitted with adjustable wheels that could be raised or lowered in order to lift beets from the ground into the machine. It revolutionized the sugar beet harvesting industry.

patent record for this inventionThe following is a portion of a poem Briosi wrote detailing his experience as an inventor.

Then came the harvester, built with great care,
It worked like a charm and the market was there.
So we plunged right ahead, with our backs to the wall,
With never a thought, could be in for a fall.
The press and the farmers were sure on our side,
and even the factory got on for the ride.
The signs were all with us, just couldn’t go wrong,
Soon we’d be rich, and it wouldn’t take long.
All over the world the patents were sent.
And what did we get?
Not a ruddy red cent!!!"

—Andy Briosi
