Office of the Treaty Commissioner (Saskatchewan)

The Office of the Treaty Commissioner (OTC), an independent and neutral organization, was created in 1989 as a result of a partnership between the Federation of Saskatchewan Indian Nations and the Government of Canada. The OTC had a mandate to review and make recommendations on two important treaty-related issues: land entitlement and education. Following the success of their first mandate, the OTC obtained a second mandate to further explore the meaning of the Saskatchewan treaties, including Treaty 6, and to begin a discussion on other important treaty issues such as land and resources, treaty payments, health, justice, and education.
