Elementary Student Zone
French speaking people traveled and lived in Alberta from the earliest days of European exploration. We recognize them and the French speaking people who followed as the Francophone Albertan community. The Francophone community now has two main populations. There are those who came from the French –Canadian areas of Eastern Canada and from other Francophone regions of the world. The other has Métis heritage; those whose heritage combines European and First Nations culture.
In this Elementary Student Zone you will find examples from the story of the Alberta Francophone community based on the website Alberta's Francophone Heritage. This is organized into material suitable for elementary school. There is special emphasis upon the St. Paul community as an example of Francophone heritage. The material is organized into five main groups.
Infomania contains material in text form; some Facts in Brief, text excerpts, a time line, and additional references.
MegaMedia contains photographs and other images, and audio sources from Our Alberta Heritage series produced for CKUA radio.
Action Pack contains some ways to check your learning. There is a quiz, a word search, and a crossword.
While you can learn a great deal from your own exploration of this Edukit presentation, those who wish to use a teacher guided structure can turn to the Teacher Zone - Elementary.
