Phillip Roy

Philippe Roy was a doctor who played an important role in the development of Alberta's Francophone community. He became a senator and Canada's senior diplomat in France.

Roy was born south of Quebec City, and studied medicine. On the wway to the Klondike, he stopped at Edmonton and stayed. He became involved with local Francophone organizations and began a French language newspaper.

In 1906, Roy was appointed senator for northern Alberta by Prime Minister Wilfred Laurier. Roy finished his diplomatic career in 1938, and died in Ottawa in 1948.
