University of Alberta Sports Wall of Fame
Each year, the names of a select group of individuals are added to the University of Alberta’s Sports Wall of Fame. The Sports Wall of Fame recognizes not only these athletes’ contribution to the University of Alberta, but also their contribution to the provincial, national, and international sporting stage.
First held in 1987, the Sports Wall of Fame Dinner is an annual event intended to recognize and celebrate University and community sporting excellence and tradition and to bridge past, present, and future contributions within the University and local sporting community.
More specifically, there are three goals associated with the Sports Wall of Fame Dinner. The first is to recognize leaders in sport—individuals who have played a significant role in the development of sport at the University of Alberta and within the Edmonton community. The second is to continue to build on these communities’ sporting excellence through provision of entrance scholarships. It is the proceeds of the Sports Wall of Fame Dinner that support these scholarship programs and that provide student athletes with the opportunity to pursue both their academic and athletic aspirations at the University of Alberta. The third and final goal of the Sports Wall of Fame Dinner is to recognize and celebrate the achievements of the current University of Alberta Golden Bears and Pandas teams.
