David McLean

Beginning from his professional interest in real estate law, David McLean, 1959 BA, 1962 LLB, has gone on to distinguish himself in commerce. He is the chairman, president, and chief executive officer of the McLean Group, a consortium of family-owned companies that include successful real estate companies as well as the Vancouver Film Studio. In 1992-93, he served as chairman of the Vancouver Board of Trade and as the chairman of the Canadian Chamber of Commerce. In 1994, he became chairman of the Canadian National Railway Company.

McLean has always been interested in community issues, and he and his family have been generous benefactors to many schools, universities, and charitable organizations, such as the Kidney Foundation of Canada. He is a former chair of the board of governors of the University of British Columbia and in 1991, he was instrumental in revitalizing the Gold Key Society at the University of Alberta.

McLean serves on numerous corporate boards and, reflecting his interest in the environment, is also a director of Ducks Unlimited Canada. He has been selected for honorary degrees from both the University of British Columbia and the University of Alberta.

McLean is a 1994 recipient of the University of Alberta Alumni Association's Distinguished Alumni Award. He received the Order of British Columbia in 1999.
