The Chicken Soup book series
proved to be a major development in publishing throughout the '90s. In
1990, American professional speakers Jack Canfield and Mark Victor Hansen
developed a concept in which they would publish inspirational stories
derived from their own experiences delivering keynote speeches and
presenting workshops. Gradually, they included the work of other
professional speakers, and then canvassed ordinary people for their
true-life experiences.
The first Chicken Soup for the Soul book was published in the United
States in June 1993, and as the series progressed, the books were
repeatedly finding a home on The New York Times best-seller list. As of
2003, there were 58 Chicken Soup titles in print, as well as another six
titles in Spanish, and 16 CD collections of inspirational music and author
excerpts. More than 50 million copies of the books have been sold, with
translations in over 30 languages.
The whole Chicken Soup story can be seen at:

The North Bay, Ont.-based professional speaker and trainer Barry Spilchuk
has been dubbed Canada's Dale Carnegie for his inspirational speeches and
workshops. He is also co-author with Canfield and Hansen of A Cup of
Chicken Soup for the Soul, which since its release in 1996 has sold more
than 500,000 copies.

Chicken Soup for the Soul co-author Barry Spilchuk speaks in Edmonton at
the International Association for Volunteer Effort Conference.
In Part 1
of his presentation, entitled Inspiration: Chicken Soup
for the Soul -
Living Life to the Fullest, Spilchuk discusses the importance of having
dreams, and urges listeners to ask themselves what gifts have they
been given, and to use those gifts to create positive change. Asking
for help is a sign of strength, he suggests, not a sign of weakness,
and he concludes by sharing a story from the book Chicken Soup for the
Soul.
