Tid Bits about Aboriginal Languages • In areas where Aboriginal people were nomadic language tended to spread easily. Aboriginal people who were more isolated and sedentary did not usually spread their language very far. • However, the Aboriginal people in smaller more isolated communities are able to retain their traditional languages. • Algonquian languages account for the highest share of Aboriginal languages in all provinces, except for British Columbia, the Northwest Territories, Yukon, and Nunavut. • Inuktitut is virtually the only Aboriginal language spoken in Nunavut. • British Columbia is home to almost half of Aboriginal languages spoken in Canada.
