Stanley Harrison

Stanley Harrison's biography of the famed writer and horsemen Stanley Harrison was particularly important to MacEwan because the two shared a dear friendship for over 40 years. Both men shared a love for nature's creations and would express their passion in writing: Harrison wrote hundreds of poems describing the Canadian West while MacEwan's legacy is affirmed through the publication of dozens of popular western Canadian history books.

A man of several talents, not unlike MacEwan, Harrison was well-known for breeding championship thoroughbreds. His horses were loved by race fans throughout the province of Saskatchewan. In recognition of his contributions as a breeder, trainer, and race official Stanley Harrison was inducted into the Saskatchewan Sports Hall of Fame on April 1, 1978.

The Rhyming Horseman of the Qu'Appelle is MacEwan's tribute to a good friend and an accomplished Saskatchewan pioneer farmer. MacEwan's book includes a collection of Harrison's poems, some of them never before published. The book is intended for anyone interested in animals, particularly horses. The book is a testament to one of western Canada's great pioneers, a an equally skilled poet and horse trainer who was respected by all who knew him.
