Elementary Teacher Zone, Aboriginal Health and Wellness
The general theme of the lessons is the history and use of plants, roots, and berries by Aboriginal peoples for the benefit of health and wellness within their communities. Students will also learn to appreciate the important relationship between Aboriginal people and the natural environment.

Elementary Teacher Zone, Aboriginal Leadership
Welcome to the Teacher Zone for the elementary portion of the Aboriginal Youth Identity - Leadership Edukit. The lessons in the elementary section are designed to compliment the 2005 Social Studies as outlined by Alberta Education. The focus on this series of lesson plans is on identifying Aboriginal role models and heroes such as Bill Reid, Buffy Sainte-Marie, or Waneek Horn.

The following lesson plans for elementary students can be used to meet a variety of curriculum objectives.

Elementary/Junior High Teacher Zone, Alberta’s Francophone Heritage
In this section are three main sets of resources. There are instructional plans giving ideas and structure for use of the Student Zone resources at the upper elementary level. These address learning outcomes at the grade 4 and 5 Alberta Program of Studies for Social Studies (2005). The second instructional plan organizes the materials in the Secondary Student Zone for use at the Junior Secondary Level. These address learning outcomes at the grade 7 and 9 Alberta Program of Studies for Social Studies (2005).

Elementary/Secondary Teacher Zone, Alex Decoteau
The Teacher Resource section contains lesson plans, Web Quests and information for the teacher that relates to the Web Quest called ‘The Museum’. The lesson plans in this section were provided by teachers that have used the edukit in their classrooms. The Web Quests have been designed specifically for the edukit, by trained teachers working for the Heritage Community Foundation.

First Nations Contributions Jr. Teacher Zone
An examination of First Nations culture and thier contributions to the culture of the wider society.

First Nations Contributions Secondary Teacher Zone
A study of art, oral traditions and literature in the First Nation community. Students will have the opportunity to learn about First Nation businesses and discover how cultural influences are used in their practices and have contributed to their success.

Grade 1, Aboriginal Language and Culture
There is an intricate link between culture and language. Many people would argue that a culture is unable to survive without language as the basis of communication. It is important that students understand how language is important to their own culture and to the culture of others.

Grade 1, Aboriginal Spirituality and Creation
The lessons focus on the importance of oral history, storytelling, and legends as well as exploring the role of Elders in the Aboriginal community. We have developed an excellent resource base that will allow students to examine alternate ways of recording history such as through rock art and medicine wheels.
