This paper discusses the missionary contribution to the making of Treaty 8 in general with a particular focus on Bishop Emile Grouard and his two accounts of the treaty negotiations.
Johnson notes the competition for souls in the North West between the Oblates and Protestant missionaries did colour significantly the perceptions and reporting of the treaty talks and outcomes.
