Tunisia in Alberta

Al Rashid Mosque Tunisia ’s major religion is Islam, and there are Islamic mosques throughout the country. There are mosques in Alberta that reflect this Eastern part of the world. The architecture of Tunisia is influenced by many different cultures because it is located on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa where groups like the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Spanish, Turks, and French have left their mark.

Canadian Islamic CentreIn Edmonton, the Al Rashid Mosque has Tunisian-inspired influences. For example, the towers at the front face of the building are characteristic of Tunisian structures. Tunisian architecture features classical elements like curved arches over windows; this style was introduced by the Romans, who at one time occupied Tunisia.
