Missionary Dinner CampThe men and women who ventured into the frontier were passionate and often striking characters. They shaped the land that they chose to call home and in the process they too were altered. The recollections of their triumphs are exhilarating;  the chronicles of their defeats are poignant. They are, however, all stories of transformation.

Camp Meeting 1819This section offers some of these voices. On one hand, we can discover through the missionaries' words an illuminating and often emotional perspective. On the other, the voices connected with the missions-the wives, officials, colleagues and converts-complement those of the missionaries themselves and paint a dynamic portrait of the mission era, a picture that is further completed by the words of contemporary poets and historians.
