There are many influences in the architecture of Tunisia because it is located on the Mediterranean coast of North Africa where groups like the Phoenicians, Romans, Vandals, Byzantines, Spanish, Turks, and French have left their mark. In Edmonton the Al Rashid Mosque has Tunisian-inspired influences. For example, the towers at the front face of the building are characteristic of Tunisian structures. Tunisian architecture features classical elements like curved arches over windows; this style was introduced by the Romans, who at one point in history occupied Tunisia.
