Classical Architecture

Classical architecture began with the ancient Greeks in the 7 th century AD and then was elaborated by the Romans until the 5 th century CE. Some stylistic features of classical architecture include rows of columns, an entablature, a portico, and a pediment. Like classical art, the key to this type of architecture is symmetry and, therefore, perfection. Classicism was revived in the 16 th and 17 th centuries, and it continues to serve as the paragon of design for architects.

One of the best examples of classical architecture in Alberta is the Alberta Legislature Building. The elements that characterize classical architecture are the arch, columns, and dome. All of these classical elements found in the construction of the Alberta Legislature Building date back to the Greek and Roman periods.
