This project was made possible thanks to the financial contribution of the Community Initiatives Program - Alberta Lottery Fund.

The Homefront in Alberta Web site was developed by the Heritage Community Foundation, Alberta’s heritage charity. The website is a part of www.Albertasource.ca—the Alberta Online Encyclopedia. This Heritage Community Foundation initiative is giving a World Wide Web presence to the historical, natural, cultural, scientific, and technological heritage of Alberta. It is also a vehicle for ensuring that our heritage is valued by everyone.

This community cultural memory and living tradition project application was accomplished by a partnership with the Canadian Militaria Preservation Society and the Royal Alberta Museum. Please contact them at:

The Royal Alberta Museum helps Albertans play an active and informed role in shaping their world by encouraging understanding and appreciation of Alberta’s natural and cultural heritage. By preserving and telling the story of Alberta - the experience of people and places over time – the Royal Alberta Museum inspires and helps Albertans explore and understand the world around them.

The Museum offers a full range of exhibitions and activities for every age level and interest. Behind the scenes, thirteen curatorial programs are responsible for building and making accessible some of the finest human and natural history collections in the country.

One of these programs is Military and Political History; it conducts research in military history as it relates to Alberta and Albertans with the aim of presenting its findings in the form of publications, public exhibitions and websites such as the “World War II: The Homefront in Alberta”, undertaken in partnership with the Heritage Community Foundation and the Canadian Militaria Preservation Society.
