Peter Lougheed

In October 1985, CKUA Radio engaged in what was to be its most audacious live news coverage to date. The Alberta Progressive Conservative Leadership Convention was held at the AgriCom in Edmonton, and a team of 16 reporters, announcers and technicians provided 15 hours of continuous live coverage, a feat unmatched by any other broadcast news service.

The convention and subsequent provincial election would result in Don Getty succeeding Peter Lougheed as Alberta's eighth premier. In the 1989 election, however, Getty would lose his Edmonton Whitemud seat, though his party was returned to power. In 1992, Ralph Klein succeeded Getty as Tory leader and premier.
