Music Alberta
Established in 1996, Music Alberta is an organization
that provides programs and services to members of the music industry.
Dedicated to promoting music in Alberta, Music Alberta supports music
teachers, musicians and music promoters. Urban and rural areas are offered
specially tailored assistance to address individual needs within specific
areas.
Along with providing industry specific advice and
assistance to those in the music industry, Music Alberta provides
workshops, honour programs and festivals. A special program offered in
October of 2003 was the 'Music Alberta Youth Career Conference-International Music Day Celebration', held at Edmonton's Shaw Conference
Centre. Designed to introduce high school and university students to the
diverse assortment of music careers, the conference included sessions on a
variety of topics. Industry players spoke about the skills necessary to
maintain a music related profession. Another program that Music Alberta
has organized in the past is 'Music and Computers: Using Technology in
Music'. This program focused on introducing ideas for selecting software
for the purposes of teaching music.
In addition to organizing programs, Music Alberta also
publishes Music Alberta Magazine, featuring articles, general news, tips
and columns for the music community. The publication focuses on a wide
variety of topics and includes an event calendar. Individuals may become
involved in the promotion of Albertan music by purchasing a Music Alberta
membership.
