Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Award Program
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Award Program
has been established in order to acknowledge the talent, effort, and
achievement of individuals within the Albertan arts community. The awards
began in 2003 and since then, up to three $30,000 awards are to be
presented every second year to hard working and creative individuals who
demonstrate excellence in the arts. The arts program was established by
the Honourable Lois E. Hole, Lieutenant Governor of Alberta.
An
outstanding individual, Hole is a wildly successful business woman, best
selling author and advocate for the arts and education. Appointed
Lieutenant Governor of Alberta by Jean Chretien on December 9, 1999. She
has since established several programs to promote literacy, education and
the arts. The Lois Hole Library Legacy Program is one example of Hole's
dedication to supporting the literary community. Through the Legacy
program, individuals may make donations to a library and the donation may
be made in the donor's own name or in honour of a friend, family member,
or organization.
The Lieutenant Governor of Alberta Arts Award Program
provides individuals with endowments that help support their artistic
endeavors. A foundation oversees the awards program and any individual
artist is eligible to apply. Communities in Alberta may apply in order to
host an awards gala celebration of the arts whereby the Lieutenant
Governor of Alberta Arts Awards may be presented.
